Iran nomadic home “Black Tent” nationally registered

Iran nomadic abodes are inscribed as a national heritage.

Iran nomadic abode “Siah Chador” (Black Tent) has been registered as a national intangible heritage in the country.

An Iranian official with Iran Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization based in Lorestan Province made the remarks, adding such tents made of the goat’s wool are considered as the houses belonging to the province’s nomads.

“Siah Chador” is of significance for the nomads in Lorestan due to the climate of the province. The tent comprises two upper sections and a wall which are called “Chador” (Tent) and “Cheet” respectively.

With its nearest equivalent “chintz” in English, Cheet is printed multicolored cotton fabric used for curtains and upholstery.

Ghlam Reza Soleimani also said that the goat’s wool used in such abodes for Iranian nomads is water resistant and light weight.

"Siah Chador" was unanimously approved by the respective council in charge of registering Iran intangible cultural heritage.

The Black Tent is one of Iran’s glamorous attractions for domestic and international tourists alike.
